A university student who trapped his genitals in an iron ring for eight hours has been rescued by firefighters using an electric saw in east China.

Eye-watering footage of the rescue operation in Jinan, Shandong province on Saturday shows sparks flying as firefighters sliced through the metal contraption stuck on the man’s penis with a circular saw.

The man rushed to hospital after trying to free himself without success. Following an examination, medical staff turned to the fire department for help as the hinged device was stuck fast and cutting off the man’s circulation.

The student had put on the device ‘for excitement’ but ended up getting trapped, according to Jinan Economics Radio.

The device was clipped at the base of the young man’s genitals, causing a blood supply obstruction which led to severe swelling.

The man was trapped for five hours before he sought the help of doctors at Shandong Provincial Hospital.

Rescuers said the iron ring was triple layered, allowing the user to clasp his penis while rotating the outermost ring, which then in turn moved a set of iron beads.

Firefighters carefully broke the metal device into pieces using an electric saw and a handsaw to minimise the risk of injuring the student’s genitals. He was freed three hours later

‘Does it hurt? No, right?’ one of the rescuers was heard asking the man during the operation.

He was freed three hours later and suffered ‘severe swelling’, the report said.

It is unclear if the man suffered any long-term health effects.

In a statement following the incident, the Jinan fire department warned members of the public that they must not disregard their safety for ‘pleasure’ or ‘excitement’.
