WATERLOO Road legend Katie Griffiths has revealed that she is pregnant with her first child.

The happy news comes just five months after she tied the knot to long-term partner Matthew Wardle in a stunning ceremony in Hampshire.

Katie, who became best known for playing Chlo Grainger on the BBC One school drama, shared the announcement on social media on Wednesday.

The actress posted a picture of her blossoming baby bump while wearing a black crop top.

Her adorable pooch could also be seen in the photo, with the dog sitting next to a book titled 'How to Still Get Treats When The Humans are Having a Baby'.

Katie played Chlo Grainger on Waterloo Road, who was once a pupil at the school.

When she originally played the role, the character was known for being a sassy teenager, who was the daughter of art teacher Izzie Redpath (Jill Halfpenny) who was killed in a stabbing.

In the 2023 reboot of Waterloo, Chlo was all grown up with children of her own.

Katie was just 17 when she joined the cast of Waterloo Road in 2006.

She remained playing Chlo Grainger for four series, before leaving in 2009.

Katie reprised the role in 2023, and told the BBC she was thrilled to be back: "It's been wonderful. It feels like coming back but also everything is different.

"The set’s different. The classes are brand new, there’s a really exciting cast and some returning faces.

"So it's been a bit of everything but it’s been lovely. "

But her character was killed off after results from a car accident.

Chlo collapsed at home, with a worried Donte, played by Adam Thomas, rushing her to the hospital.

Then, in a closing scene which nobody saw coming, the doctors revealed the devastating news to Donte that his wife had sadly passed away.

Viewers were left heartbroken for the character and for her long-term love Donte.

Since leaving Waterloo Road, she has guest-starred in Casualty as three different characters.

In 2010 she played Glenda in Rock and Chips and in 2012 she went Stateside to star as a cowgirl in the US TV mini-series Hatfield And McCoys, with Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton.

After getting a taste for Hollywood, she also auditioned for the role of Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which went to fellow Brit Daisy Ridley, and for Cinderella in Into The Woods.

She told The Telegraph and Argus: “I was up for the part of Cinderella, it eventually went to Anna Kendrick who was already a star. But I had great feedback from the producer and was told that if they'd decided to cast an unknown actress it would've been me.”
