Primary school praised for banning homework over the Christmas holidays and urging kids to spend time with family – The Sun

A SCHOOL has been praised for banning homework over the Christmas holidays – instead urging kids to spend time with family or make somebody smile.

Staff at Oak Tree Primary School in Cheadle Hulme, Gtr Manchester, informed parents that all library books and spelling tests would be collected in by teachers before pupils break up for the holidays.

A letter said: “Over Christmas we would like your child to focus on these things instead – watch a

Christmas movie, spend time with your family and friends, eat food that you love, make somebody laugh or smile, do something for somebody else, visit a favourite place, play a board game, wrap a Christmas present.”

Assistant head Georgina Pugh added: “Above all we want you to rest and have fun!”

Mum Lauren Brown, 35, whose son Oscar, six, attends the school, praised the move, adding: "It’s so lovely to encourage children to focus on what’s important this time of year.

“It allows kids to be kids too and really enjoy their Christmas break.

“I think more primary schools should follow suit. It really was quite heartwarming to read the letter.”

The school declined to comment.
