Man fatally shot by cop at ex-girlfriend’s Suffolk County apartment

A Brooklyn man was fatally shot by a cop at his ex-girlfriend’s Suffolk County apartment when he refused to drop a knife, authorities said.

Cops responded to the Fairfield Townhouses at Coram around 5:40 p.m. Monday when a woman reported that her ex-boyfriend was drunk and refusing to leave her apartment, Suffolk County police said.

The woman opened her garage door to allow officers inside, according to police.

When one officer walked in, 46-year-old Paul Sulkowski approached, displaying a knife, cops said.

The officer instructed Sulkowski to drop the knife, but he refused, authorities said.

The officer backed out of the garage and into the street, where he repeated his commands from about 500 feet away, police said.

But Sulkowski continued moving forward, closing in on the officer — who ultimately opened fire, striking him, cops said.

Sulkowski was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
