Iranian protesters burn Union flags and chant ‘Death to England’ outside British embassy – The Sun

HARDLINE protesters chanted “Death to England” and burned Union flags outside the British embassy in Iran yesterday.

Pro-government groups urged the UK ambassador’s expulsion and embassy’s closure — as others demonstrated against the Iranian regime.

It followed the arrest of Rob Macaire on Saturday night for allegedly joining an anti- government protest over Iran’s accidental shooting down of a Ukrainian jet with 176 deaths.

Mr Macaire was released before being quizzed again and accused of “inciting” demos against the regime.

He rubbished the claims, insisting he was at a vigil for victims, as PM Boris Johnson condemned his arrest as “violation of international law”.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said Iran was close to becoming a “pariah” state.

Tens of thousands took to the streets over the Flight PS752 disaster.

The Tehran regime used riot cops and tear gas to clear streets.

Donald Trump warned “Do not kill your protesters,” adding: “The world is watching.” Britain, France and Germany, meanwhile, issued a statement urging a diplomatic solution to tackle Iran’s “destabilising regional activities, including those linked to its missile programme”.

The weekend’s events risked reigniting tensions after Iran and the US had stepped back from the brink over America’s assassination of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani.

Meanwhile, Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said Britain must prepare to fight wars without America as Mr Trump adopts an increasingly isolationist foreign policy.

He said the thought “keeps me awake at night”.
