From homeless kids to OAP desert crossings… misery of refugees around the world revealed in haunting photos

A series of stunning entries to a photography competition organised by Oxford University’s centre of migration, policy and society (COMPAS) have chronicalled the experience of uprooted people as they seek shelter.

This competition called Finding Your Way had a wide variety of entries from more than 20 countries worldwide, with cash prizes awarded for 1st and 2nd place, plus 12 runners-up.

Images captured dramatic movements of people in the troubled world we live in.  

From the flight of Rohingya Muslims into neighbouring Bangladesh to the journey undertaken by pilgrims travelling to the Ganges delta, these photographs offer a snapshot of looking for  new life.

Photographer Mohammad Rakibul Hasan said: "Many of those who are fleeing are farmers, who just had a simple life and wanted to live it peacefully on their own terms with respect, dignity and their own identity. Everyone has the right to live, to perform their own belief and religion.”
