10-year-old girl scares off would-be burglar approaching California home

A brave 10-year-old girl scared away a man who may have been trying to burglarize her home, video footage from her family’s Ring camera shows.

Lola Letourneau was sitting in her family’s SUV at their Bakersfield home around 4 p.m. Thursday, helping her mom by starting the car and turning on the air conditioning, when she saw a stranger approach the home, KERO reported.

All of a sudden, Lola is seen darting out of the car in front of the man, yelling, “Get out of here!” — and then screaming — spooking him, the video shows.

The man runs away as Lola makes a beeline for her house.

“I just knew I needed to tell him to leave,” Lola told the outlet. “So I just thought of a bunch of words to like tell him to go away.”

Lola’s mother, Jordan Pendley, called her daughter “very brave.”

“I am so surprised,” Pendley told KFSN. “She was pretty shook up, I felt pretty bad for her. She was really scared, but that was such a bold move of her.”

Lola’s stepdad Dylan Pendley told KERO he had prepared Lola for situations like this, telling her to “just yell.”

“I mean, especially with the pandemic going on, there’s a lot of people home,” he said. “Just scream and someone is going to come outside. Fortunately, my neighbor, he came out.”
