Arsenal chasing Marcelo transfer as 31-year-old Brazilian left-back is Plan B in case Kieran Tierney chase fails – The Sun

ARSENAL are in the race to sign Real Madrid left-back Marcelo, according to reports in Spain.

The Brazilian left-back, 31, has told Los Blancos he wants to leave the club with his starting berth under threat.

Marcelo has spent 13 years at the Bernabeu but could be second-choice next season after Zinedine Zidane splashed £47million on French left-back Ferland Mendy.

According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Arsenal, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan are all interested in the star.

Marcelo is currently on holiday having been axed from Brazil's Copa America squad in favour of Alex Sandro and Filipe Luis.

His representatives are said to be in talks with Real president Florentino Perez.

It appears unlikely that Arsenal would be able to compete with those clubs for the defender.

The Gunners are working on a tight budget this summer and are unable to offer Marcelo Champions League football.

However, Arsenal are chasing Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney and have extended Nacho Monreal's contract for at least another year.

Marcelo joined Real Madrid from Fluminense when he was 19 for just £5million.

In his 13 years in the Spanish capital he has become one of the best left-backs in the world, helping Real Madrid to four La Liga titles and four Champions League wins.
