The surprising cosmetic procedure celebrities love ahead of awards season
While plenty of stars spent their holidays indulging in decadent food and too much champagne, many have been busy preparing their minds and bodies for the Golden Globes, which will take place on January 5 in Beverly Hills.
Dr. Simon Ourian — the Kardashian family cosmetic dermatologist who is responsible for fixing Kylie Jenner’s lip injections and works with Lisa Vanderpump, Lady Gaga, Jenna Dewan, Christie Brinkley and many more — tells Page Six Style that there’s a surprising area female celebs like to treat right before hitting the red carpet: their backs.
“A lot of celebrities wear open-back dresses and will request CoolBeam treatments,” he said. “This removes sun damage, acne scars and any discoloration.”
Kim Kardashian herself has used the CoolBeam laser to remove stretch marks, though she did not reveal which area of her body was treated. She has also had Dr. Ourian tighten the skin around her belly button after giving birth, while her sister Khloé was seen getting a laser treatment on her butt in a 2010 episode of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.”
The CoolBeam laser treatment is exclusively available at Ourian’s famed Epione practice in Beverly Hills and can be used on any body part, but he says that the back is a particular favorite with his celeb clientele.
During the procedure, the treatment area is first cooled with a special device. Then, a series of light pulses are flashed on the surface of the skin to stimulate cell repair and collagen growth. Dr. Ourian claims that his procedure may be safer and more effective than other lasers on darker skin types, which previously could not safely undergo laser treatment.
The simple job doesn’t come cheap; it costs anywhere between $2,900 and $4,900 per treatment area. According to Ourian, however, celebrities only need one treatment about 4-6 weeks before a red carpet to see results.
Outside of red carpet season, Ourian revealed that the most popular requests from celebs are the Fox eye lift and jaw contouring.
“It is very common amongst celebs because gives them a more sexy, but natural look,” he said of the Fox eye lift. “It makes eyes look more alert and make the eyes more bright-looking. Many of them you have seen and don’t know they’ve had them done until you compare their pictures from before.”
As for jaw and facial contouring, he says it’s the most trendy procedure right now and “very big” in Hollywood.
Now it seems that a visit to Dr. Ourian will completely negate the need for makeup at all.
