Rich parents keen to ward off kidnap and ransom attempts are hiring trained bodyguards to do the school run, new reports have found.

Despite the majority of millionaires in London’s wealthiest boroughs, which include Westminter and Kensington and Chelsea, already having top notch childminders, many are now hiring ex-military bodyguards who are trained in first aid.

Principal and founder of £20,000-a-year Knightsbridge School Magoo Giles, a former Coldstream Guard who served as the Queen’s Equerry for two years, revealed how it is now a common sight to see bodyguards dropping children off at school and waiting outside the gates until they finish.

Magoo told The Times: ‘All of the bodyguards that we recruit are ex-military. However, when it comes to close protection for children, clients tend to demand more high-level staff, someone who is trained in emergency first aid and possibly from special forces like the SAS.

‘They tend to be foreign nationals and mostly from Russia.

‘People wanting this sort of protection come from places where the criminal model includes kidnapping and ransom, and in the 1990s in Russia this was the way they operated’.

So far, bodyguards have been more commonly spotted accompanying royals like Prince George and Princess Charlotte to school.

They are also pictured accompanying celebrity children including Angelina Jolie’s troup and the Beckham clan out in public.

But according to the latest reports it may now become more common to see them shadowing the more low key elite of society.
