A low-confidence bride-to-be who is worried about looking like a ‘sausage roll’ in her dream gown is transformed into a ‘French Fancy’ In Say Yes To The Dress Lancashire.

In tonight’s episode of TLC’s Say Yes To The Dress, super stylist Gok Wan is joined by bride-to-be Candice, who has been a bridesmaid a staggering seven times in the last five years, and now it’s her turn to tie the knot.

‘She deserves to be a princess for the day,’ Candice’s sister Sherrelle says.

But since losing her mum four years ago, the bride-to-be’s body confidence has hit rock bottom, and she’s intent on losing weight in time for her wedding.

‘I like a classy, glamorous style,’ she says, turning to Gok. ‘I kind of want to feel a bit sexy and confident too. I also want to lose weight, a couple of stone.’

But Gok wants to show Candice that she doesn’t have to lose weight to find the perfect dress.

‘I don’t believe anyone should have to lose weight to find happiness,’ he explains.

On a mission to help the bride-to-be find her confidence, the super stylist outlines a strategy to show her how to feel beautiful in the body she is in, starting with a simple, classy gown with a low-cut neckline.

Anxious over showing off too much of her body, Candice’s worries soon fade away.

Gok gives Candice (pictured in dress 1) a confidence in self-love and acceptance to prove she doesn’t need to lose weight before her big day

‘I just look so different to what I thought I would,’ she says, looking in the mirror.

Looking into Candice’s eyes, Gok gives her a lesson in self-love and acceptance, and explains: ‘If you lost two or three stone, it wouldn’t look like this.’

‘This is perfect, this is the body that’s getting married, because this is the body that holds the heart and holds the body and holds the soul.

‘This doesn’t need to change. You need to change what you see inside your brain, that’s all it is.’

Gok’s words have the desired effect, as Candice starts to feel more assured in the gown.

‘That’s really given me hope, and I think I would have the confidence for other people to see me in this dress,’ she says. ‘I love you, Gok. You’re lovely!’

Offering her a tissue and hug, the stylist can’t help but get emotional himself and jokes: ‘I need one of those as well, you’ve made me go!’

Downstairs, Candice’s entourage are just as tearful, seeing her looking beautiful and confident.

‘It really slims you in,’ Sherrelle enthuses. ‘There is no meat poking out of the pastry!’

Candice admits she prefers dress number 2 (pictured) more than the first, and says: ‘I’d never ever thought that I could wear these spaghetti straps’

The bride-to-be is delighted when she tries on dress 2 (pictured), and says she feels both confident and sexy

Shocked, Candice explains her sister’s comments to Gok: ‘She was like, “if you look like a sausage roll, I will be telling you straight away.”‘

Laughing at Sherrelle’s remark, Gok adds: ‘You definitely don’t look like a sausage roll, you look like a French fancy, I would say!’

But for Gok, it’s time to turn things up a notch. Whisking her back upstairs, he presents an equally stunning gown with spaghetti straps, showing off more of Candice’s shoulders.

‘Oh wow. I absolutely love it,’ says Candice. ‘I never thought I’d look like this up here. This is where I always feel frumpy. It’s not freaking me out like I thought it would!’

Pleased that Candice is starting to see herself in a different light, Gok takes her back downstairs.

‘I love this one more than I do the first one,’ she enthuses. ‘I’d never ever thought that I could wear these spaghetti straps.’

‘Even though I’ve got more on show, I feel much more confident and sexy!’

Seeing her sister so happy and confident, Sherrelle can’t hide her delight.

‘I’ve never heard my sister say she looks sexy in 31 years of my life!’ she says, to which a thrilled Gok adds: ‘What’s amazing about this is that your level of confidence is just getting stronger and stronger.’

After building Candice’s self-confidence over a series of dresses, Gok thinks he’s found the one: a beautiful gown with bardot sleeves and a mikado skirt.

After growing more comfortable in her own skin throughout the afternoon, Candice is lost for words as she opens her eyes wearing dress three.

‘Oh, I love it,’ she says tearfully. ‘I can’t believe this dress has had this effect on me.’

Without a dry eye in the house after showing her entourage, Candice says yes to the dress.
