Man so scared of knife crime he made a chainmail stab vest to protect himself

A Londoner is so scared of being a victim of knife crime that he has made his own stab-proof vest to wear when he goes outside.

The man, who is known by his first name Claudio, lives next to west Ealing train station in west London, where a man was stabbed to death over the weekend.

His killing was one of seven stabbings during a violent 24 hour-period in the capital.

The 26-year-old showed his creation made from chains to LBC radio .

He said: "This vest was made to protect myself against the knife crime.

"I made it myself because it's dangerous out here.

"Knife crime is getting out of control and there are no police around.

"When the police come it's already too late. So I protect myself before something happens."

Explaining that the vest covers his torso but not his arms, he said: "I am protecting my organs because I believe I can survive with a cut in my arm.

"I don't want to feel the pain if an organ was cut through.

"I wear it every day because there are stabbings in London every day – random, gang-related, drug-related, mistaken identitiy.

"You name it.

"It can affect anyone no matter your age, gender background. You name it and it can come to you at any point, any stage.

"So I will protect myself and I wish everyone would have one of these.

"I am scared, really scared."

As of Saturday, since the beginning of the year 129 murder investigations have been launched in London.
