Indian takeaway which had NO sink and served raw chicken ordered to pay £42k

An Indian takeaway boss has been ordered to pay £42,000 in fines after food hygiene inspectors found his restaurant did not have a sink.

Mr Biryani restaurant in Slough, Berkshire has been slammed for breaching food hygiene requirements 10 times over the past two years since the eatery opened for business.

Owner Santosh Ragalpavi Balasubramaniam, 37, from Maidenhead, Berks has been slapped with staggering fines after inspectors found his chefs did not have a sink to wash their hands and served undercooked chicken.

The restaurant was also ordered to dispose of all of its food and disinfect the premises after sewage water flooded the basement.

Mr Balasubramaniam, 37, was the owner and operator of Virundhu Ltd, which began serving food from July 2015 to October 2017.

However, he was ordered to shut his restaurant down in November 2017 after inspectors gave his eatery a zero hygiene rating.

Mr Balasubramaniam was fined £9,220, ordered to pay £3,253 costs and a £170 victim surcharge at Reading Magistrates’ Court.

Virundhu Ltd, the company which he was in charge of at the time, was slapped with a £24,000 fine and ordered to pay £8,470 costs and a £170 victim surcharge.

The restaurant owner admitted to failing to provide a wash basin for chefs and not storing food between suitable temperatures for safe handling.

Inspectors also found walls and surfaces were not up to standard, and that Mr Balasubramaniam failed to comply with two hygiene improvement notices for the implementation of a food safety system and the training of food handlers served on August 9 2017.

Cllr Pavitar Mann, cabinet member for planning and regulation at Slough Borough Council, said: “Food businesses which do not provide suitable standards of hygiene on their premises when preparing food for members of the public have no place in the borough.
