Horse seen smashing into central reservation after being forced to race on road

People have been left 'disgusted' after a video emerged of a horse being raced into a central reservation.

The brutal footage is taken from the vantage point of a car as it drives along a dual-carriageway.

Three 4×4 cars line-up behind two horse drawn carriages driven by two people in high-vis jackets.

A man can be heard shouting "come on, come on!" as the three-wheeled vehicles gain speed.

"Go on boys, f***ing* go on" the man screams while one horse begins to veer from the left hand lane across the right one.

It suddenly tacks right in an apparent attempt to jump over the central reservation, instead crashing into the metal railing.

The three cars come to a halt alongside the crashed vehicle.

The two riders appear to be in sulky carts, which are used in harness racing.

It is currently unclear what happened to the horse and the rider, or where and when the race took place.

The video prompted a huge reaction after it was posted on Twitter this afternoon.

"Wow, I'm speechless," one person wrote below the video.

"The riders are no better than the guys egging them on," another person suggested.

Another said: "How dense do you need to be to think this is acceptable and not think the horse is distressed and likely in pain, to not even consider the horses welfare!?

"It isn’t even down to education, nobody is born that evil. Those animals have more right to life than the “humans.”

One woman added: "What is actually going on? Are they trying to spur the horses on by aggressively driving their cars and shouting??"
