  • Australian fitness influencer Sarah Stevenson was disappointed with a viral hack
  • The mum-of-two tried out the onion slicing hack and said it didn’t work for her
  • A French chef invented the hack, which uses a fork and peeler to slice an onion

A French chef has been wowing millions with his ‘genius’ trick for finely slicing onions – but Australian fitness star Sarah Stevenson was far from impressed with the result after trying it out for herself.

The chef impressed foodies with his clever method, which involves using a fork and vegetable peeler to finely slice onions and shallots quickly.

Sarah, who goes by Sarah’s Day online, tried the hack out with her three-year-old son Fox and failed to successfully slice anything.

‘I’m gonna give this one a no from us,’ she said.

A handy French chef, who goes by Casa Tips online, has been wowing millions with his ‘genius’ trick for finely slicing onions using a fork and a vegetable peeler (left). However, Sarah, tried the hack out with her three-year-old son Fox and failed to successfully slice any onion (right)

The chef, who goes by Casa Tips online, stabs the bottom of the onion with a fork facing downwards, secures it with his palm and his other hand, and runs the peeler ‘back and forth’ over the top of the onion to create paper-thin slices.

The mum-of-two uploaded a video of herself and her son trying out the hack.

‘I’m very sceptical, I feel like we just don’t have a big enough peeler,’ she said.

‘Moment of truth are you ready?’ she asked her son.

Sarah put the fork into the side of the onion then tried to peel off thin slices but failed.

‘Come on, this can’t be real. I’m gonna give this one a no from us,’ she said.

Her followers had mixed opinions about the theory.

Several suggested Sarah wasn’t getting results because she was doing something wrong.

‘Either your onion is too old and a bit soft or you need a sharper peeler,’ one woman said.

‘Mine worked perfectly! It was such a game changer for me. Maybe it’s your peeler?’ another commented.

However, others agreed the hack isn’t as good as it seems.

‘I tried this today and it didn’t work for me either!’ one woman said.

‘Apparently [the chef is] demoing a slicer he sells. Most won’t do this,’ another added.

The French cook is proud of his method, which he said creates onion slices that are ‘perfect for your burger and perfect for your pizza’.

He said if the peeler’s blade isn’t as wide as the onion to run the gadget along each side of the vegetable it won’t work.

The French cook said the onion slices are ‘perfect for your burger and perfect for your pizza’ and added you can apply more pressure with the peeler to get slightly thicker slices

The chef also said you can apply more pressure with the peeler to get slightly thicker slices.

His video has been viewed a whopping 84million times and had many in the comments ‘mind blown’.

‘How are we learning this hack only now????!!’ one viewer exclaimed while others called the hack ‘genius’ and ‘amazing’.

‘There’s no way I haven’t figured this out before,’ a second wrote.

‘Oh I love this idea, best for my children instead of using knives which I’m really fearful! Thank you sooo much,’ a mum replied.

‘Omg it works. Just done it with a shallot,’ another user said.
