Fantasy Football: 3 lessons learned from Premier League pre-season action

Fantasy football aficionados… how seriously are you taking pre-season?

Premier League clubs have embarked on their various tours, from Tranmere to Taiwan.

But how much can we really read into what goes on in the month leading up to campaign starter? Are they signs of things to come, or is it a matter of what happens on tour stays on tour?

Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool all played in recent days… so here’s a few things you might have the bare in mind ahead of the new Dream Team season.

Fantasy Football tips: Premier League pre-season

1 Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a proper right back

Manchester United are in Australia right now and took on Perth Glory in their first pre-season meeting.

They certainly didn’t set the world alight, with Marcus Rashford and James Garner bagging after half time in a 2-0 win.

But it was Wan-Bissaka’s second-half introduction that will really have impressed United fans after his £50m move from Crystal Palace.

The youngster, priced at £3.5m on Dream Team, won every tackle he attempted and generally produced an all-action display.

Wan-Bissaka is the right-back United have been crying out for for years and will get a lot of game time this season.

2 Don’t sleep on Emerson

Marcos Alonso? Haven’t heard that name for a while…

Yes Emerson Palmieri very much finished last season as Chelsea’s first choice left-back and has carried on where he left off.

The Italian international scored in the Blues’ pre-season win over St Patrick’s with a fine strike into the bottom left corner.

At just £2.5m on Dream Team this season he looks a steal considering he’s cheaper than team-mate Davide Zappacosta.

Play fantasy football in 2019/20

  • You can play THREE different games with Dream Team this season – Season, Weekender and Draft
  • Draft is new for this season and will increase competition among mini leagues
  • The game will open for business in mid-July

3 A side man or front and centre?

Divock Origi finished last season in style and wrote his name into Liverpool folklore.

But the Belgian will be out to prove his form wasn’t just a flash in the pan.

After signing a new deal this week, Origi scored within minutes of coming off the bench in the 6-0 win over Tranmere on Thursday night.

While Rhian Brewster and Harry Wilson impressed, Origi took his goal with aplomb and will be hoping to repay Jurgen Klopp’s faith when the season gets underway.

At £2.5m he could be a really handy player for the cup competitions.

When does fantasy football start for the new season?

The first game of the new season between Liverpool and Norwich kicks everything off on Friday, August 9th.

And we anticipate that registration for Dream Team will open for business in mid-July.

You’ll be able to play the Season game, Weekender and the brand spanking new Draft game which everyone is excited about.

It promises to be the best season yet…
