You’ve been baking your pie all wrong – why you should never put it in the oven right after making and other mistakes

MAKING pies does not have to be a total nightmare like The Great British Baking Show often depicts.

In fact, there are a few things you can fix to make sure that what you're baking comes out as tasty as you want it to.

Here are a few common mistakes you can make sure to avoid next time you bake a delicious pie, according to Bon Appetit:

THROW IT IN THE OVEN

Often, when you're done making your pie and putting it all together, you throw it in the oven to start baking it as soon as possible.

But that could actually be ruining your chances of getting a flaky pie crust.

Instead, you'll want to put it in the freezer for 15 minutes to make sure the butter cools down.

BAKING IN THE WRONG RACK

To make sure your crust bakes properly and you're not left with a soggy bottom (cue Paul Hollywood voice), place your pie on the bottom rack.

Baking your pie on the bottom rack will ensure that the bottom crust gets nice and golden brown.

PERFECT TEMPERATURE

It all comes back to the crust but expect to be moving it in and out of the fridge to make sure it always stays at the right temperature.

The dough has to be at the optimal temperature for you to roll it out – too cold and it will crack; too warm and it'll be sticky and gummy.

NOT MAKING IT LOOK NICE

Although we expect homemade pies to look a little rough around the edges, that doesn't mean that you can't put in the effort to make it picturesque.

Once you're done baking it, make sure to give it an egg wash and sprinkle it with some coarse sugar for that bakery look.

SERVE IT RIGHT OUT OF THE OVEN

This goes for any baked good but make sure that you let your pie cool down after it's done baking.

It should cool for over an hour because that will let the filling set and it will be cool enough to eat without burning your mouth.
