I never wanted to be a mum and only had a baby to make my husband happy – I was scared he would leave me

MANY of us dream about being a mum from a young age, while others don't have the same plans for their future.

But one woman has revealed that she only had a baby to "make her husband happy" in fear he would leave her for someone else.

The Australian woman revealed that her first marriage ended just six months in, and at 24 she probably "would have had kids" as she was "deeply in love".

But after meeting her now-husband Ben in her late thirties, she'd "lost all interest in being a mum" and starting a family was not something she wanted.

After getting married at 38 years old, she was pressured into having kids right away and he "wouldn't accept" that she "wasn't overly keen."

"Ben didn't accept the fact that I didn't feel maternal. He thought I was probably eternally grateful to meet him and settle down before it was 'too late' to have kids," she told 9Honey.

"Now we have a two-year-old and I love him to bits but I should have trusted my instincts – I'm just not maternal and not cut out to be a good mother. I think I'm an okay mother, I love him so much and I care for him to the best of my abilities."

She went on to say that she does the "bare minimum" but she "couldn't wait to go back to work" after putting her son in daycare from "a very young age."

She revealed that she only ever became a mum to fufil her husband's dream of becoming a dad.

"I had a kind of fear that, if I didn't make him a father, he might leave me for a woman who would. Don't get me wrong, I love my son," she said.

But she would have preferred the kid-free life she was hoping for before her husband pressured her into having a baby.
