Home cook shares simple Yorkshire pudding recipe to make in lockdown – and says they taste BETTER than shop bought ones

A HOME cook has revealed her simple Yorkshire pudding recipe – after struggling to buy any in the shops during lockdown.

Her partner said they tasted better than their favourite Aunt Bessie's – and it's so easy she nailed it on the first attempt.

Posting on Facebook's Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group, she said: "I tried to find Yorkshire puddings for a decent price in two shops yesterday but there were only the Aunt Bessie’s ones for £1.75 so I finally decided to try to make my own."

She made eight Yorkies by adapting a five-star rated BBC Good Food recipe, and said "they look incredible & smell good!"

She added: "They were DELICIOUS and soooo light & fluffy! The video on the link said to make sure the batter was a bit thinner than the consistency of cream.

"My partner said they were better than shop bought ones so I’ve got the seal of approval.

"Make sure to use about half a teaspoon of oil as some had oil still at the bottom of them where I’d put too much."

How to make 8 Yorkshire puddings

Ingredients

  • 70g plain flour (about 100ml)
  • 2 eggs
  • 100ml milk
  • Sunflower oil, for cooking

Method

  1. Heat oven to 230C/fan 210C/gas 8.
  2. Drizzle a little sunflower oil evenly into non-stick muffin tins and place in the oven to heat through.
  3. To make the batter, tip 70g plain flour into a bowl and beat in 2 eggs until smooth.
  4. Gradually add 100ml milk and carry on beating until the mix is completely lump-free. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Pour the batter into a jug, then remove the hot tins from the oven. Carefully and evenly pour the batter into the holes.
  6. Place the tins back in the oven and leave undisturbed for 20-25 mins until the puddings have puffed up and browned.
  7. Serve immediately. You can now cool them and freeze for up to 1 month.

Commenting on the thread on Facebook, people raved: "they look amazing", "gorgeous" and "they really do look lovely".

Another woman said: "Wow they look lovely! Well done! I tried the other day and mine went flat".

While one added: "They look lush. I have never made them. But will do today. Wish me luck".

And one lady commented: "One good thing has come from this hideous time is more people have time for cooking".
