'Chubby girl' clothing hack video slammed as 'insulting' for suggesting women wrap cling film around their stomachs as a DIY girdle

A FACEBOOK page dedicated to creating genius do-it-yourself clothing hacks has been slammed by followers after posting an "insulting" video that "body shames" women.

Sharing a clip this week – titled "Chubby Girl Clothing Hacks" – the 5-Minute Crafts page suggested women wrap their midriffs in cling film, as an affordable DIY girdle.

Dubbed a "top secret of plus-size girls", the footage shows a woman trying on a fitted black dress, before grabbing her stomach in what looks like despair.

In the next shot, the woman is standing in her underwear, looking pretty pleased after someone out of shot hands her a roll of cling film.

Shockingly, the woman wraps the cling film tightly around her stomach a number of times, before popping the dress back on.

A before-and-after photo seems to show the woman's stomach looking slightly slimmer, with effects similar to that of "control" underwear.

Despite the video – which also offers a number of other "chubby girl hacks" – intending to be helpful, Facebook users have slammed the page for creating "insulting" content.

One person wrote: "This is just insulting."

While another said: "If this is not the ultimate body shame… the only hack I found useful was the powder on my inner thigh to prevent chafing… otherwise I'll pass on this one."

Another said: "Be who you are and own it!"

Others joked it would be incredibly uncomfortable, with one commenting: "I think she will sweat a lot with that wrap in her stomach. So uncomfortable."

Another agreed, saying the woman would be drenched from sweat "within 30 mins".

"Oh my goodness! I'd rather lose weight than attempt to saran wrap my stomach every time I want to go out."

Many users were happy with some of the other tips, but one woman pointed out, "the best hack is self love".

Another user agreed and asked whether the video itself was necessary.

"Just be proud of yourselves. Beauty, figure, looking perfect is not everything," they said.

"If you are overweight, then lose weight. But for good health, and not for looking good."
