Mel B 'doing fine after treating herpes eye infection' that made her 'blind'

Mel B is recovering from an eye infection that she feared had made her blind.

The Spice Girl is now ‘doing fine’ after being treated for a flare-up of herpes in her eye, the latest reports claim.

Mel has been given eye drops and is expected to return to rehearsals for the Spice Girls tour imminently.

A source told People: ‘She’s doing fine now, she’s not blind. This has happened before. She has herpes in her eye, so this can happen.

‘She told the doctor she was blind because she couldn’t see but her eye is OK. They gave her some drops and she’s good now. It was nothing major.’

A representative for Mel B has been contacted by Metro.co.uk for comment.

Eye herpes or ocular herpes is a common, recurrent viral infection affecting the eyes. This type of herpes virus can cause swelling around the eyes, irritation, pain and sensitivity to light.

Mel was rushed to hospital last week, ‘frantic and screaming’ in pain during a rehearsal with the Spice Girls, The Sun reported on Sunday.

She reported a total loss of vision in her right eye and was taken to London’s Moorfields Eye Hospital wearing an eye-patch.

Emma Bunton, Mel C and Geri Horner were all said to be very worried about their bandmate, who believed she had gone ‘totally blind’.

On Sunday, a Spice Girls spokesperson assured Metro.co.uk that the situation with Mel was ‘under control’ and that Mel was ‘looking forward to the tour.’

The Spice Girls are set to launch their epic stadium reunion tour on Friday 24 May at Dublin’s Croke Park.
