Megan Barton Hanson ex boyfriend: Why did Celebs Go Dating star split from Wes Nelson?

The Celebs Go Dating cast welcomed Love Island 2018 star Megan Barton Hanson into its ranks in series seven as she looks for love. Megan’s been single since splitting with fellow Love Island star and Dancing on Ice finalist, Wes Nelson. Express.co.uk exclusively spoke with dating and relationship expert Jonny Cassell to find out what he made of Megan and Wes’ split and what effect it could have on the Celebs Go Dating star.

Why did Megan Barton Hanson split from Wes Nelson?

Megan and Wes’ romance came to an end during the latter’s time on ITV’s Dancing on Ice.

Rumours surrounding Wes and his skating partner Vanessa Bauer emerged during the series, exacerbated by the fact she had split from her long-term boyfriend at the time.

However, Love Island’s Wes and Vanessa never formed a public relationship and Megan took to Instagram to announce the split was amicable.

It’s this mature attitude that Cassell believes is why Megan can go on to be positive in future romances.

Cassell said: “In regards to experiencing a break up that has been featured in the public eye or simply amongst all of your friends, you’ve got to own it.

“Feeling bitter towards someone that was close to you and who you shared many positive experiences within my view is a sign of immaturity.

“Instead, it’s to be thankful and grateful for this person. Megan and Wes handled their situation with such a commendable level of maturity despite the media trying to put their usual twist on things.

“So to conclude, it’s to be positive about the situation as opposed to negative despite your emotions feeling like they want to steer you into that direction.”

Megan and Wes’ split was just one in a long list of break-ups to emerge after starting a romance in Love Island.

Cassell believes the “bubble” reality stars put themselves in on TV could be the root cause of the problem and could apply to relationships of Celebs Go Dating.

The dating expert said: “My belief is that it’s such a contained bubble within these experiences and what happens to these individuals is they gain so much attention through all sorts of mediums, the written press, social media, appearances, press events and you have what is called the celebrity effect.

“When you become famous you have people who literally just throw themselves at you for their very own self-fulfilling prophecies.

“People want to have you on their sexual gratification CV and if you haven’t experienced this in such abundance before then you may find yourself yielding to this constant desire.”

“The dichotomy is you are just someone’s experience and live a completely different lifestyle that is very hard to relate to so the longevity to these short-lived romances is questionable even if you actually want it to work.

“The other side to it is that over time things come to the surface like in any relationship that you were not aware of in the early stage.”

Megan’s past romances haven’t put her off the dating the scene with the Love Island star admitting she’d like to date other women on Celebs Go Dating.

She joins fellow former Islander Jack Fincham in the line-up for the E4 series.

Alongside EastEnders star Lee Ryan and TOWIE’s Lauren Goodger, the Celebrity Dating Agency have their work cut out.

Geordie Shore’s Nathan Henry and I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! royalty Lady Colin Campbell also join the cast.

Celebs Go Dating continues on Sunday on E4.
