Matt Lucas ruthlessly mocks Boris Johnson’s lockdown speech

Matt Lucas has offered a brutal alternative to Boris Johnson’s lockdown speech and he’s well and truly mocking it.

The prime minister addressed the nation on Sunday evening (10 May) to lay out the government’s roadmap to easing the coronavirus lockdown in the coming weeks.

However, many figures like Piers Morgan have accused the PM of delivering a ‘confusing’ and ‘muddled’ message.

He urged those who are unable to work from home to go back to work and said the public can now take ‘unlimited’ exercise from Wednesday.

Enter former Little Britain star Matt to lighten the mood and deliver his own take on the speech.

Putting on a pretty impressive impersonation of Boris, the comedian said: ‘So, we are saying don’t go to work, go to work, don’t take public transport, go to work, don’t go to work.

‘Stay indoors. If you can work from home go to work, don’t go to work, go outside, don’t go outside.

Reeling off all the unanswered questions, one follower weighed in: ‘Totally (swear word) brilliant! I could have cried having waited in anticipation and ended up totally confused. How do you go back to work with children at home, no transport, no social distancing in place and a killer virus on the rampage?’

‘So in 18 seconds you accurately summed up what it took Boris to waffle in 10 minutes I’m completely none the wiser?!!’ another praised Matt.

It comes after Piers Morgan, and other celebrities, similarly ripped into Boris’ speech.

‘So disingenuous,’ Piers tweeted.

‘The Prime Minister changed UK strategy after he was told the herd immunity policy he’d been pursuing for weeks would lead to 500k deaths. How many died unnecessarily before he U-turned to the way everyone else was already doing it? ‘So nothing’s really changed then. Total waste of time.’

Talk show host Jonathan Ross also reacted: ‘I rarely comment on politics here, and avoid publicly siding with one party (all pretty useless at the moment) because no one should give a shit about celebs opinions. But it’s hard to imagine a greater display of inept leadership and muddled thinking then Boris just displayed.’
