Lizzo Files Lawsuit Challenging ‘Truth Hurts’ Plagiarism Claims

Lizzo has filed a lawsuit challenging Los Angeles based songwriting brothers Justin and Jeremiah Raisen‘s plagiarism claims.

Lizzo has asked a Federal Judge to declare that the duo did not co-write her hit song “Truth Hurts” and are not entitled to any of the its profits.

On October 16, the Raisens had declared that they were instrumental in creating one of the song’s signature catch phrases: “I just took a DNA test, turns our I”m 100% that bitch.”

Lizzo responded to their claims, writing, “The men who claim a piece of ‘Truth Hurts’ did not help me write any part of the song. They had nothing to do with the line or how I chose to sing it.”

“There was no one in the room when I wrote ‘Truth Hurts,’ except me, Ricky Reed, and my tears. That song is my life, and its words are my truth,” Lizzo added.

Meanwhile, in her statement, Lizzo acknowledged that the single’s signature lyric was inspired by a February 2017 tweet from the singer Mina Lioness that read, “I did a DNA test and found out I’m 100% that bitch.”

Lizzo had earlier made Lioness an official co-writer on the track, saying, “The creator of the tweet is the person I am sharing my success with… not these men. Period.”
