Jennifer Lopez Was ‘Very Wary’ Of Marrying Alex Rodriguez — Find Out Why!
Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez seem just perfect together. So why was the decision to wed such a tough one for J.Lo??
The Booty singer is giving new insight into her relationship with the former New York Yankees superstar this week, from going to strip clubs together to taking that BIG next step.
The other big next step, besides the strip club thing.
So why was Jen the one who was hesitant to get hitched? She told the Morning Mash Up crew on Sirius XM Hits 1:
“I was very wary after everything I’ve been through.”
What she’s been through is a very quick way of putting it. What she’s been through is FOUR previous engagements, three of which became marriages. A quick recap:
- The marriage to Ojani Noa was short-lived, not even lasting a year — but continued to be contentious for years afterward.
- Her next husband, backup dancer Cris Judd, was a rebound relationship after Diddy. The entire marriage lasted only nine months.
- The Ben Affleck engagement didn’t end with the two getting married at all.
- With Marc Anthony, it all lasted much longer, and she had two beautiful children. But even that eventually came to an end (though the exes are friends and great coparents!)
So you can see why Jennifer might not be so quick to accept another ring. She elaborated:
“I was just sussing it out until then. I was like, ‘I don’t know, maybe yes, maybe no, I really love , I like him.’ Everything seemed almost too perfect too soon, so I was like, ‘Wait, what’s happening?’”
It’s hard to let your guard down when all evidence has told you to keep it up.
But there are good men out there. Um… so we’ve heard! LOLz!
J.Lo is now convinced about A-Rod though:
“When it happened, I think it was the right time — we knew. It’s great to have a best friend and a partner you can really build with, and I just feel like, with Alex and I, that’s what it’s like. We’re very similar… it’s one of those things, you meet a like-minded person who is trying to be the best person they can be and always trying to grow, and then they help you grow and you help them grow. I’m better here, he’s better there and we’re better together.”

For an example of the hot couple helping each other grow…
Jennifer is starring in a movie called Hustlers all about strippers who take on Wall Street. The movie, which costars Cardi B, Constance Wu, Lili Reinhart, and more, will see J.Lo take on the role of a stripper — something she’d never had any personal experience with.
So of course Alex was all too willing to help! She told Apple Music‘s Beats 1:
“Alex was very excited about me doing a stripper movie. He helped me do research by going to a strip club in NYC with me and we watched the show and afterwards I chatted to some of the girls.”
Apparently the former Yankee was something of an expert!
“Of course he knew that world very well from when he was a young athlete, going to the clubs and stuff. He helped me a lot with the preparation for this movie and was very supportive.”
We’re glad she was so cool with just how much her man knew about strippers!
We just hope he doesn’t turn out to be too interested in “that world” still, if you know what we mean.
