Cultural Appropriation Icon Kim Kardashian Says She’s Becoming A Lawyer To Help Her ‘Four Black Ki

Kim Kardashian West is opening up more about why she wants to trade her life as a reality star for a life in the courtroom — and her reasons are quite personal!

As fans know, the KUWTK star grew passionate about criminal justice reform ever since she helped get Alice Marie Johnson released from prison in 2018. Not only is she currently studying to take the bar exam in 2022, the mogul is also planning to “give up being Kim K” in ten years to set up her own legal firm. While that’s all very admirable, it raises the question: gurl, why!?

Well, KKW finally shed more light on her career transition in an interview with Carine Roitfeld’s CR Fashion Book for the mag’s Power issue, on which she graces the cover with Cher and Naomi Campbell. During her portion of the cover story, Kanye West’s wife opened up about her foray into criminal justice and prison reform, and explained that “raising four black kids” in a “discriminatory” system is largely what’s motivating her to go on such a journey.

She explained:

“My evolution on this is probably some combination of growing up, getting married, having kids, and my life being so different than what it was when I was starting out. Now, I feel like I have a duty to myself and to my children more than the public and I want to be a good role model for my kids.”

The social media superstar added her passion comes from the hope that she can change said discriminatory system to make the lives of her (mixed) children — North West, Saint West, Chicago West, and Psalm West — much easier, adding:

“I’m raising four black kids in this society and our system is so discriminatory against black and brown people. I want to do as much as I can to make their lives easier…I never knew much about the system until I started to dig in, and once I learned and saw how many things were wrong, I really couldn’t stop.”

Admirable!

But we guess Kim stopped short at researching how many black people feel about her and her sisters constantly appropriating their culture. As we reported, Kim and the other KarJenners have gotten a good deal of criticism for exploiting certain elements of blackness — particularly, sporting traditionally black hairstyles like box braids, cornrows, or laid edges — and have even been accused of normalizing racial impersonation by black critics.

In an interview with NBC News last year, black Instagram influencer and sexuality educator Ericka Hart said:

“How popular the Kardashians are speaks volumes and can’t be overlooked. They have been able to capitalize off black bodies, and people will want to emulate that.”

So if Kim really does want to empower the black community, maybe she could start by cutting out the cornrows.

Thoughts, Perezcious readers?
