Xavier University shooting at graduation for Morris Jeff Community School in New Orleans sees 'three people shot

THREE people have reportedly been shot at a high school graduation ceremony on Tuesday morning.

Police say the shooting took place on the campus of Xavier University in New Orleans, where the graduation ceremony of Morris Jeff High School was taking place.



Police say the shooting unfolded in the parking lot outside Convocation Center, used as the venue for numerous high school graduation ceremonies each spring, KALB 5 reports.

According to police, initial information shows that three people sustained gunshot wounds.

The victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The names, ages and conditions of the victims were not immediately known.

It's unclear if the victims were students at Morris Jeff High School.

Cops say the shooter was detained at the scene.

Witnesses told the outlet that a fight broke out shortly after the ceremony ended and then heard about five to 12 gunshots ring out.

The latest shooting comes after gunfire broke out outside another graduation ceremony at Southeastern Louisiana University for Hammond High School on May 19.

In that shooting, police claim Trent Thomas, 20, opened fire, injuring four people.
