Trump aide who lied to FBI plans to run for office

Fresh out of prison for lying to the FBI, ex-Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos is plotting his own run for office.

“I will be running for Congress in 2020, and I will win,” he tweeted. “Stay tuned.”

The Chicago native outlined plans to move to Orange County, Calif., in an interview with the Daily Telegraph.

“I just have to find a little Republican enclave somewhere in this part of the country and run there,” he told the British newspaper.

He expanded on his political strategy in a Saturday tweet.

“Orange County is up for grabs. Don’t see any real long term opposition there,” the wannabe pol posted.

“Weak candidates who barely snuck by during a midterm election that historically favors the opposition party. Won’t be like that in 2020,” he wrote.

Orange County is traditionally Republican turf, but voters elected several Democrats to Congress as the House of Representatives flipped in November.

Papadopoulos told the Telegraph that voters will forgive him for dissembling in testimony about his conversations with foreigners during his time with the Trump campaign—which led to his guilty plea and 12 days in prison.

“We all make mistakes,” he said.
