Shona’s sister Amy Reid is calling on the author of the note to come forward to assist in the investigation following weeks of unanswered questions for the family.

She said: ‘We just want this person to come forward and speak to the police. This is the first person to come forward with information like this.

‘We just want this person to know there is nothing to be scared of. It would really help our family if they could come forward.’

In an emotive Facebook post, she added: ‘As Shona’s sister I really am encouraging you to contact the police or myself regarding this.

‘As I’ve said so many times this is so difficult and heartbreaking for us as a family, I wouldn’t wish this upon anybody. Please do the right thing.’

Shona was last heard from at around 11.40pm on March 3. Her body was pulled out of the Six Mile Water on March 6.

Her family has described the past few weeks as a ‘nightmare’, with Ms Reid adding her own investigation into Shona’s death is ‘the thing that is keeping me going.’

Police in Northern Ireland are not treating Shona’s death as suspicious but are continuing to investigate ‘when and where [she] may have entered the water’

She told BelfastLive: ‘It would not have been like her to go off on her own somewhere like that, she was scared of the dark and would get her daddy to turn the landing light on for her if it was too dark.

‘We just hope that someone will come forward to the police with more answers so we can find out what happened to my sister.’

Ms Reid has launched a significant social media campaign in a bid to find out more information about her sister’s death, alongside handing out posters and leaflets.

Police in Northern Ireland are not treating the death as suspicious.

A spokesperson said the force is keen to establish ‘when and where Shona may have entered the water, and to give her family those answers.’
