Primary school application 2020 – when will I find out if my child has a place?

DECIDING which primary schools to apply for can be a daunting prospect for parents.

With deadlines looming for the 2020 school year, here is what you need to know about the application process, and when you’ll find out if your child has a place in your chosen school.

When in the application deadline?

If your child was born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016, they'll be able to apply to start primary school in September 2020.

The closing date for primary school applications for a place in a class for September 2020 is midnight, 15 January.

How many schools can I choose?

When completing the application, both online or paper, you will be asked to list the schools you’re applying for in order of preference.

You must apply for at least three schools.

When will I find out?

Councils will send confirmations of which school your child has been offered a place at, on April 16, 2020.

If this date falls on a weekend, the council will send out the confirmation on the next working day.

Have a look at your local council’s website for more information or to find out your results if you applied online.
