A police appeal to the public for help tracking a potential fraudster has left residents puzzled after the force released a blurred out photo of the suspect obscured by a full face shield.

West Midlands Police are trying to locate a woman who has been door-knocking in the Sheldon are of east Birmingham, claiming to be making ‘collections’ for the NHS.

The suspected fraudster was described as a ‘white female, with dark hair, wearing a blue jacket’ as well as wearing a large Covid face shield.

But in an attached photo to the appeal, posted on twitter, the force could only provide a largely blurred out picture, with the woman’s face obscured completely by the shield.

‘We have received reports of a white female, with dark hair, wearing a blue jacket and a covid face shield knocking on doors in the Sheldon area pro-porting to be collecting for the NHS,’ read the post.

‘If you sight this female please call 999 and report it. We are keen to identify the female.’

The appeal is not believed to have received much new information, with one social media user questioning how the picture could help them identify the woman.

Aston Villa fan Tom Morgan wrote: ‘How you supposed to identify that picture? Looks like it was taken on a potato.’

Sheldon Police replied saying: ‘Thanks for the educated reply Tom. It was posted for description purposes only Have a good day.’

However Lyn Heys claiming that she may have seen the woman, adding: ‘She knocked on my door yesterday on Cranes Park road, I told her I wasn’t interested and she walked away, she did have some sort of ID on her neck.’
