This is the horrifying moment a pet dog is dragged up by its neck after its leash got stuck between the closed doors of a descending lift in China.

The on-leash Schnauzer is seen standing in the elevator alone while its owner was still outside before the doors suddenly shut at a residential compound in eastern China’s Qingdao on Friday.

The dog is said to be unharmed after it dropped to the floor when the machine went down two floors and opened again about 15 seconds later.

The owner said that she had been distracted when she ‘accidentally’ let her dog walk into the lift alone.

The incident came to light after the Chinese woman shared the CCTV footage Saturday on Douyin, the Chinese equivalent of TikTok, to warn other pet owners.

She wrote in the post: ‘This was the horrifying scene last night. A kind reminder to other pet owners – don’t be so careless when you are taking the lift.’

In the trending video, the Schnauzer can be seen standing inside the elevator with opened doors.

Its leash was held by its owner who was standing outside, seemingly focused on something else.

The pooch was suddenly yanked from the lift’s floor and dragged up to the ceiling after the machine closed and began to descend. The dog in China is said to be unharmed in the incident

The owner told web users in the comments that she had been distracted and left her dog there ‘accidentally’.

The pooch was suddenly yanked from the lift’s floor and dragged up to the ceiling after the machine closed and began to descend.

After about 15 seconds, the dog finally broke free when the lift stopped two storeys below and opened the doors.

The leash was also teared apart during the process, said Chinese media.

It stayed in the elevator for another few minutes and ran out when the lift reached the ground floor.

The Schnauzer was later found by its owner in the complex and is said to be unharmed in the incident.

A similar horror occurred to a pet Labrador in China in June when the dog walked into the elevator alone when the machine began to go down, but its owner was nowhere to be seen.

All the passengers in the lift watched the trapped animal struggle to get away but failed to help.

The dog appeared to be unharmed after it dropped to the floor when the leash eventually slipped through the lift doors several seconds later.
