Ocasio-Cortez takes swipe at Kushner for being considered for next chief of staff

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez jabbed first son-in-law Jared Kushner on Friday amid reports that he was in still in the running to be President Trump’s next chief of staff.

“Ah yes, of course, it’s classic Republican ‘bootstrap’ meritocracy: where the smartest, hardest-working, most fitting person for the job just so happens to be your son-in-law,” the congresswoman-elect wrote on Twitter, referring to the conservative shibboleth that anyone in America can succeed if they work hard enough.

Chris Christie later told the president he wasn’t interested, further reducing the pool of candidates.

Trump’s search for a new White House chief of staff is now centered around Kushner and Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, Reuters reported Friday.

Trump has no deadline for deciding on a replacement for John Kelly, whose departure as chief of staff was announced last week, and, as always, he could change his mind, the source said.

Christie is at least the third candidate to take himself out of the running.

Nick Ayers, Trump’s first choice, who served the same role for Vice President Mike Pence, turned him down, and conservative North Carolina GOP Rep. Mark Meadows also took his name out of the pool.
