Mystery sea creature dubbed 'Donald Trump's hairpiece' leaves experts stumped after yellow blob is spotted off Australia

The mysterious blob, which has a blondish hue, was found in the waters at Durras Beach, New South Wales, Australia.

A picture was then sent to Sapphire Coast Marine Discovery Centre in Eden, who turned to the public for help identifying the seabeast.

Centre manager Kerryn Wood said: "Suggestions included a jellyfish, part of a jellyfish, part of a sea creature, part of a fish, an egg mass, and someone's yellow scarf they dropped last winter."

One person even suggested that perhaps "Donald Trump's hairpiece fell in the water" and Kerryn agrees there is some resemblance.

"But I would never bestow something so horrid on a beautiful sea creature," she said. "The reaction has been one of genuine mystery and intrigue.

"It's an unusual looking thing and it's hard to tell if it's a whole thing or a part of something. It's something not normally seen and therefore it's attracted a lot of attention."

Kerryn believes that the blob is the bell of a jelly blubber – a common jellyfish species along Australia's eastern coast.

There are several potential explanations for how the jelly was mutilated.

"Possibly it's due to predation," said Kerryn, "or human interaction like fishing or boating – it could have been run over by a boat motor."

Kerryn is now calling for members of the public to send in more photos of any peculiar sea creatures in need of identification.

"It's always exciting for people to send us pics of marine creatures for identification and fun for us to use our networks to try to find out what things are," she said.

In 2017, a tropical fish has caused waves in an aquarium – because of it uncanny resemblance to President Trump.

And a new species of moth was also named after the tycoon because it appeared to share the same vivid "yellowish-white" hair-do.
