Mum stunned to see 'cheeky chappy' unborn baby giving her the finger in scan photo

Bethany Pollock had not yet seen a clear scan photo of her baby but was stunned when he appeared to flip the finger at her in his 20-week scan photo.

The black and white image shows Rudy Barnfield lying on his back with his right hand on his chest and what appears to be his middle finger pointed defiantly in the air.

Bethany, 26, and partner Craig Barnfield found the photo hilarious and joked the gesture was in revenge for all the prodding he was subjected to when docs tried to get him in the correct position.

The proud mum says her now 14-week-old son was always destined to be a character and that even her midwife labelled him a 'cheeky chappy' when he was born.

Bethany, from Frampton on Severn in Gloucs, said: “It just really tickles me. It made me want to meet my little boy even more.

“The minute he was born the midwife who lifted him up said 'he's a cheeky chappy' and we just laughed. We already had that feeling about him anyway.

“I think every time we had a scan he always tried to get himself in the most awkward position for his scans – and always not looking at us.

“At that scan they needed to get a view of his heart. He just wouldn't stay still or get in the position that we wanted, and he ended up doing that as well.

“As soon as the pictures were printed and we looked at them we laughed.

Despite showcasing his defiance in the womb, Bethany said that the tot has yet to put on a repeat performance.

Bethany said: “He doesn't do the gesture now, he's a wriggler and never stays still."

But Bethany is not surprised that Rudy, who was 8lb 9oz when he was born on September 2, has a cheeky streak and claims he gets it from his
36-year-old dad Craig.

Bethany said: “I'll probably tease him about his scan photo as he grows up. It's really clear that he's giving Mummy and Daddy the bird straight away.

“I think he's going to be a chatterbox like me and he's just going to be very much into everything and wanting to see how things work.

“I think he'll be really adventurous.”
