Man ‘unbuckles baby’s pram straps and tries to buy the infant from terrified mother on busy street’

  • Mother was walking with her baby in a pushchair at around 8.30am in Dudley 
  • A man approached her and asked to buy her baby before blocking her path 
  • Man tried to unbuckle baby’s restraints but she managed to move out of the way

A mother was left terrified after a man tried to unbuckle her baby’s pram straps before asking to buy the infant on a busy street.

The mother – who has not been named – was walking with her baby in a pushchair at around 8.30am in Dudley, West Midlands, on Tuesday.

A man approached her and asked to buy her baby before blocking her path and trying to unbuckle the baby’s restraints.

The mother managed to turn the pram around and pushed the man away before fleeing.

Neither mother nor baby were harmed during the incident.

West Midlands Police are trying to track the man down, but say it is an isolated incident.

A spokesman said: ‘We would like to reassure people there have been no similar reports in the area, at this stage we believe this to be an isolated incident and we are working to track down the man involved.

‘Local officers are making CCTV enquiries and patrols have been increased in the surrounding area.’
