Magic's Devin Cannady stretchered off court after suffering horrific ankle injury

Orlando Magic guard Devin Cannady was stretchered off the court early on Sunday afternoon after suffering a brutal ankle injury in their game against the Indiana Pacers.

Cannady went up to try and defend a layup attempt from Pacers guard Edmond Sumner late in the first quarter at the Amway Center, but landed awkwardly on his right leg — which buckled completely and sent him to the floor clearly in pain.

Cannady screamed out instantly, and teammate Mo Bamba rushed over to cover up his leg quickly with his own jersey. Blood was seen on the court near his ankle, too.

He was eventually put on a stretcher and taken out of the arena, but gave a thumbs up as he did so.

The team said Cannady suffered an open fracture in his right ankle, and will undergo surgery.

Cannady played just one minute in the contest. The undrafted rookie out of Princeton is averaging 4.9 points in seven games.

Cannady has played off and on for the Magic this season, who first signed him as a free agent in November but waived him less than a month later. They brought the 24-year-old back on a 10-day deal earlier this month, and then signed a two-way contract with him at the conclusion of the contract.
