Madeleine McCann’s parents slam ‘despicable’ Facebook troll posing as missing daughter in restaurant pic – The Sun

MADELEINE McCann's parents have slammed a "despicable" Facebook troll who posed as their missing daughter and posted a cruel message about them on Facebook.

The online abuser targeted Kate and Gerry after they were pictured eating out in photos uploaded to the site on Saturday night.

Posting alongside the snap, which was taken at a restaurant in Scotland, the troll wrote: "Mum and dad are closer than I thought”.

It was sickeningly in reference to the night three-year-old Maddie vanished after being left sleeping alone with her younger twin siblings while her parents dined in a tapas restaurant in Praia da Luz with pals.

A family source said: “Kate and Gerry are both shocked and saddened that someone could stoop this low. "If seems they can't even enjoy a meal out with family on the eve of Remembrance Sunday without some lunatic abusing them and for what purpose? They find it despicable.”

Thousands of web users reportedly commented on the McCann’s visit on Saturday night to Beijing Banquet, a Chinese, Asian and veggie restaurant in Renfrew, near to Glaswegian Gerry’s family members homes.

Many hit out at the heartless troll branding the nameless, shameless person "absolutely disgusting" and "bloody sick".

One wrote: "The poor girl could be dead and you’re sat here making up stupid accounts you horrible person.” Another posted: "I'm shocked at the amount of sick minded people. A three-year-old has been missing for 12 years, I dread to think what she's been through if she's still alive."

Pictures show renowned heart doctor Gerry and ex GP Kate, both 51, carrying plates of buffet food back to their table.

The casually dressed couple from Rothley, Leics., had been snapped in the restaurant during a rare night out whilst visiting Gerry’s relatives.

Meanwhile in their home village Kate’s uncle Brian Kennedy – Maddie’s great uncle – joined Remembrance Day commemorations at the war memorial, where a candle is in situ and burns around the clock for the missing girl.

The McCann pal said: “It’s more than sickening and sad that a time to remember our war heroes people are hitting out at Madeleine’s parents. It’s been going on since day one and they wonder if it will ever cease. It’s cruel, it’s callous, it’s mindless."

Kate and Gerry cling onto a glimmer of hope that Maddie – who would be now aged 16 – could still be alive. They have vowed to continue the worldwide hunt “for as long as it takes”.

The last wave of web bile was spouted in Spring when the couple received an extra £300,000 Met Police funding from the British taxpayer to continue the hunt.

McCann spokesperson Clarence Mitchell refused to discuss the latest online hater saying: “I’m not talking about the trolls because it only fuels it.”

The duty manager at Beijing Banquet told The Sun Online: “Kate and Gerry visited our restaurant on Saturday night. It was a family dinner and we prefer not to comment. We are not aware of any trolling and would have no reason to.”
