The football v soccer divide was one of the hot topics on social media throughout the day
England is in strong form and will only need a win out of Group B’s remaining two rounds of fixtures to progress to the tournament’s knockout stages, following its 6-2 drubbing of Iran.
The US, meanwhile, is still in search of its first victory in Qatar after conceding a late penalty to Wales in a 1-1 draw, Monday.
References to the War of Independence featured heavily in today’s back and forth – with some Brits sharing photos of the White House being burnt down by British troops, and Americans hitting back with scenes of famous victories.
But Corden also featured heavily, with dozens of Twitter users referencing the Late Late Show host.
The Brit was banned from one of NYC’s most popular restaurants in town – Balthazar – in October after he berated and yelled at servers over getting an omelet order wrong.

Along with his wife, Julia Carey, the couple complained to the server that there was ‘a little bit of egg white mixed with the egg yolk’ and sent the dish back.
Restaurant owner, Keith McNally added: ‘The kitchen remade the dish but unfortunately sent it with home fries instead of salad.
‘That’s when James Corden began yelling like crazy to the server: ”You can’t do your job! You can’t do your job! Maybe I should go into the kitchen and cook the omelet myself!”’
In response, McNally claimed Corden was the ‘most abusive customer ever’, adding that the Brit had previously behaved similarly at another restaurant that he used to own – Cafe Luxembourg.
The shocking allegations come months after Corden announced he would no longer be hosting the late-night talk show in 2023.

McNally, who has a history of booting out celebrities of his exclusive restaurants, later buried the hatchet with the 44-year-old comedian, saying ‘all was forgiven.’ In return, Corden admitted on show that he had wrongly behaved with restaurant staff and ‘deeply’ regretted it.
‘James Corden just called me and apologized profusely,’ McNally shared on his Instagram. ‘Having f***ed up myself more than most people, I strongly believe in second chances.’
The Tony award-winner shot to fame in the US and became well known for his cheeky British humor on CBS. He once claimed in 2020 that he has anger issues.
