  • Said Michael Gove is hated for knifing Boris Johnson, sinking his leadership bid
  • And she tipped Sajid Javid or Jeremy Hunt for the leadership if May is toppled

Treasury Minister Liz Truss said Theresa May is even worse at managing people than David Cameron, in a conversation overheard and tweeted by a rival activist.

The minister was heard revealing her real thoughts about her fellow Cabinet ministers in a gossipy session at a restaurant where she was having lunch.

Oblivious to the fact her comments would be broadcast on the internet, she predicted Mrs May could face a no confidence vote if her Brexit deal is voted down next week.

She tipped either Home Secretary Sajid Javid or Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt to be the next Tory leader if the PM is ousted amid the Brexit chaos.

But she also accused Mr Hunt of ‘gameplaying’, and praised his successor as Health Secretary – the gadget-loving Matt Hancock – for being ‘all about policy’.

And she said that ‘everyone hates’ Environment Secretary Michael Gove because he stabbed Boris Johnson in the back and sank his leadership chances in 2016.

Ms Truss allegedly said: ‘The only person worse at managing people than David Cameron is…Theresa May.

What did Liz Truss say about her fellow Cabinet ministers?

Treasury Minister Liz Truss was overheard lifting the lid on her felow ministers in a gossipy lunch.

Here is what she allegedly said:

Theresa May

The only person worse at managing people than David Cameron is…Theresa May.

‘She’s such a pacifist whereas I embrace the chaos.

Michael Gove

‘Mind you everyone hates him – they all blame him for not letting Boris be Boris. Then we wouldn’t have Theresa as Prime Minister – and to be fair, they’re right.’

Jeremy Hunt

Jeremy Hunt is so charming. There’s no consistency though….Jeremy was all about the gameplaying.

Sajid Javid

‘It’s going to be Sajid or Jeremy for leader because of the AV system….Sajid needs to be ready.’

Matt Hancock

Matt Hancock is actually getting stuck into policy

‘She’s such a pacifist whereas I embrace the chaos. I’m a thrillseeker.

‘I’m enjoying watching France.. [Emmanuel] Macron is such a technocrat and there are consequences – worse than a lame Blair and Brown.’

She also lifted the lid on her thoughts on her other Cabinet colleagues and their chances of becoming Tory leader if Mrs May is toppled.

The thread recounts her saying: ‘Jeremy Hunt is so charming. There’s no consistency though.

‘One minute he’s all about the free market and the next… Matt Hancock is actually getting stuck into policy whereas Jeremy was all about the gameplaying.’

And she predicted that Home Secretary Sajid Javid or Mr Hunt will be the next leader if the PM is ousted amid chaos over he Brexit strategy.

Assessing their chances, Ms Truss allegedly said: ‘It’s going to be Sajid or Jeremy for leader because of the AV system.

‘The only one who could beat them with members is Boris [Johnson].

‘I’m doing a speech tomorrow – young Tories. It’s all about new vision for the Conservatives. How they win over the next generation. Unleash them.’

She later added: ‘The two most likely scenarios next week is that she gets her vote through or the vote goes to a no confidence vote.

‘And Sajid needs to be really ready to deal with that. Tomorrow will be boring I think – very technical – unless Sajid decides to send a warning shot…Who knows?’

Ms Truss said the PM should have made more use of leading Cabinet Brexiteers like Michael Gove during the Brexit talks and to drum up support for her deal.

She allegedly said: ‘At the Cabinet meeting Jeremy said we need to get Brexiteers out.

‘Liam [Fox] and Michael [Gove] suggested – someone suggested Penny [Mordaunt] and Andrea [Leadsom] and there was silence. I found it a bit sexist really. At least Michael’s got credibility, though.

The Green Party activist Zack Polanski divulged the juicy details of the gossipy lunch on Twitter

Zack Polanski tipped either Sajid Javid or Jeremy Hunt for the leadership if Theresa May was outsed

The Treasury Minister said Sajid Javid needs to be ready for a leadership challenge if the PM is toppled

‘Theresa should have used Michael more when making the deal. Used him to get the Brexiteers out.

‘Mind you everyone hates him – they all blame him for not letting Boris be Boris. Then we wouldn’t have Theresa as Prime Minister – and to be fair, they’re right.’

On Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson, she said: ‘Have you noticed Gavin’s gone quiet?

‘Military spending rejected by the Treasury. His modernisation didn’t really work and he can’t get it signed off. He’s got a speech next week and it’s all going to be sketchy.’

And she also sketched out her vision to boost the UK economy, saying that ministers should go on a war against pot holes to improve the nation’s infrastructure.

She said: ‘My new vision is all about the roads. We need to push to get company sponsorship for the Top 10 motorways. Like they have in the USA where Burger King sponsor pot holes.

‘We’ll wait until the New Year though because obviously now everything is consumed by Brexit.’

The embarrassing details were out online for the world to see last night.
