Human remains found in woods in search for missing girl, 5, day after her mother was named as a person of interest – The Sun

HUMAN remains have been found in the woods during the search for a missing girl, one day after her mum was named as a person of interest.

Cops made the discovery in Demopolis, Alabama on Tuesday, around six days after Taylor Rose Williams, five, was reported missing.

The remains have since been sent away for forensic testing, in the hope of identifying the victim.

It is not clear whether there is any connection to missing girl Taylor, who was last seen in her Jacksonville, Florida, home on November 6.

On Monday, Sheriff Mike Williams said that they would extend their search to the area where the remains would later be discovered.

It was also announced that Taylor's mother, Brianna Williams had been named as a person of interest in the girl's disappearance.

Ms Williams, who is a US Navy Petty Officer 1st Class, was alleged to no longer be cooperating with the investigation, DailyMail reported.

There's not one scenario of theory that we're not exploring, and every possibility is being looked at.

Sheriff Williams, of Jacksonville, said that the mum had not spoken to detectives since the morning the girl went missing.

She told officers that she had put her daughter to bed in the evening and when she woke up Taylor was gone and the back door was wide open.

Sheriff Williams added that it may have been months since the girl had been seen alive by anyone other than Ms Williams.

When asked about the validity of her account of events he said: "We don't know. So that is part of what we are digging into."

Last Wednesday, they towed Ms Williams' car from her home in Bentwood.

The sheriff said: "There's not one scenario of theory that we're not exploring, and every possibility is being looked at."

Investigators have asked for Ms Williams to cooperate with them in their search for her daughter

One mother told Action News that the last time she saw Taylor was on June 5, on the "last day" of daycare at Naval Air Station Jacksonville.

Her child had been "in the same class all year long" with Taylor, so had "seen her basically every day."

A woman who helped Ms Williams move from a home in Southside Villas to Brentwood, claimed not to have seen the girl then either.

Tiffani Nicole told WJXT-TV: "We never saw a child. We never heard a child. Nothing.

"I was assuming the kid was in day care, or the child was with a friend, so she can get her apartment cleaned out."

She claimed the mother was behaving strangely and said that the home did not look "well lived-in if there was a child there."

Tiffani added: "There was old food all over the floor, underneath the couches. There was trash everywhere."

We know that Brianna Williams was the last person to see Taylor, and we need for her to cooperate with us in this investigation.

The child's biological father Maurice Tate has not been reached by authorities but other family members in Alabama said they had not seen the girl in two years.

Sheriff Williams added that Ms Williams has not been arrested or charged in connection with the investigation.

They believe she stopped cooperating after they found inconsistencies with some of her statements.

He said: "We know that Brianna Williams was the last person to see Taylor, and we need for her to cooperate with us in this investigation.

"Nothing's off the table. We won't take the steps to say she's a suspect.

"We know her daughter is missing and she was the last person to see her. We know she didn't walk away."

The Sun Online reached out to Demopolis Police Department for further information but did not immediately receive a response.

Taylor was described as being three-feet tall, weighing 50lb (4st 8lb), with brown eyes and black hair.

Anyone with any information should contact Jacksonville Sheriff's Office on 904-630-0500 or 911.

Police released a statement to announce their discovery and that they would be conducting forensic testing on the remains
