Horror moment woman was slammed across pavement and into a concrete post by reckless driver

THE horror moment a woman was slammed across a footpath and into a concrete post by a reckless driver has been captured on CCTV.

Beverley Finney from St Helens in Merseyside was left with life-changing injuries when she was propelled into the pillar after driver Henry Rigby lost control of the car and spun 180 degrees, hitting her and another pedestrian on the pavement.

Following the incident in May 2016, she was left with life changing injuries – including fractures to her face and skull including a broken eye socket and nose, plus bleeding on the brain – and says the driver has essentially got away with the horror smash 'scot-free.'

Rigby, also of St Helens, was sentenced to 15 months in a young offenders institute, suspended for two years, for causing serious injury by dangerous driving in July 2017 at Liverpool Crown Court.

He was also ordered to carry out 240 hours unpaid work, given a four month home curfew, a three year disqualification from driving with an extended retest, and ordered to pay £750 compensation to each victim and £500 court costs.

But in February 2018 Rigby admitted failing to attend community service appointments and, avoiding prison, was given 15 hours of additional unpaid work told to pay £102 court costs.

Slamming the decision today, Beverley told The Liverpool Echo: "I wanted him to get something for what he did to me. He’s never received any punishment.

"I’m scarred for life and he’s walking the streets with no repercussions for what he did.

“The only reason I wasn’t killed was I’d been knocked unconscious before hitting the concrete post, which saved me.”
