Google Released Its Annual Year-in-Search Video, and My Tear Ducts Are Already Exhausted

Reflective year-in-review videos make us cry no matter how predictable they are, but what’s interesting about Google’s newly released Year in Search video is that it demonstrates how unpredictable 2018 really was.

Though it’s worth watching in its entirety, the video features many triumphs, including the box-office success and cultural importance of Crazy Rich Asians, the hopeful outcome of the midterm elections, and Cardi B’s banner year. There are moments for romance, like that Emmys proposal and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding, and reminders of how just how strange the internet can be. (Remember Yanny vs. Laurel?) Then, of course, there are moments to remember those we’ve lost, including Stephen Hawking, George H.W. Bush, and Anthony Bourdain. Watch the gracefully packaged video above.
