Furious parents have slammed a £10 ‘Winter Wonderland extravaganza’ in Norwich with a £14.50-a-ticket ice rink made of plastic mats sprayed with water and ‘two rides for toddlers’.

The fair, which advertised itself as ‘the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit’, is being held outside Norwich Football Club’s Carrow Road stadium.

The football club, though, has been forced to apologise to ‘disappointed’ visitors who described the event as ‘horrendous’ and ‘an absolute waste of money’.

Tickets for the small market cost adults £10, with further charges for children wanting to use either of the two small rides on offer.

A ticket to use the ‘ice rink’, simply plastic mats that had been sprayed with water, cost an additional £14.50 for adults and £8.50 for under 18s.

Sarah Purton, who attended the event on Tuesday, described the rink as ‘a tiny rectangle of plastic’.

The ice rink (pictured) was described as a ‘small rectangle square’ that had been covered with plastic mats sprayed with water

Plastic matting was used to recreate an ice rink, with visitors charged £14.50 for an adult ticket

One of the two bare Christmas trees sat behind metal barriers at the event outside Carrow Road

The event had limited food and beverage vans, despite advertising itself as an ‘extravaganza’

The event was held in a car park outside Norwich Football Club, which has apologised to those disappointed with the fair

She said in a Facebook post: ‘A handful of food stalls, two small rides aimed at toddlers costing £2.50 a go and a tiny rectangle of plastic that’s supposedly an ice rink?

‘And a couple of bare Christmas trees behind a metal barrier does not make a “Festive Fair”.’

The event marketed itself as offering a ‘range of attractions’ across a ‘three-day extravaganza’, with entry to the event £10 for adults, £5 for those aged 13 to 17 and under 12s allowed free entry.

However, the market contained just four food and beverage vans and two small rides – a char-o-plane and aerial carousel which could only be used at an extra cost.

There were also two reindeer accompanying Father Christmas for those in attendance.

Visitors, though, have shared their dismay at the event on social media.

The aerial carousel was one of just two small rides on offer for children and could only be used at an additional cost of £2.50

Chris Padreddii tweeted: ‘Carrow road Christmas fair…what a joke! No ice rink, trees just dumped with no decorations. Don’t waste time or money.’

Ben Seager added: ‘Not overly impressed that the particularly dismal Christmas Fair in the Carrow Road carpark is still going on, and we’ve got another couple of days of it. Music so loud my house is vibrating.’

A spokesman for Norwich City Football Club apologised to those disappointed with the event:

A statement said: ‘The club are aware of the feedback on the Festive Fair at Carrow Road.

‘Unfortunately, some of the previously booked Christmas stalls and activity areas were cancelled at late notice, whilst the club acknowledges and apologises to those disappointed by the ice rink.

‘All those who have raised an issue or complaint with the club have been contacted.’
