Five reportedly injured after knifeman bursts into French hotel and 'stabs at random before going on rampage in nearby McDonalds'

AT least five people are believed to have been injured after a knifeman went on a rampage through the French city of Lyon.

The man stabbed a woman at random in a hotel restaurant close to Saint Exupéry airport before running to a nearby McDonald's, where four more were injured, reports Le Dauphine.


Armed police were quickly dispatched to the scene following the stabbing shortly after 7pm today local time.

It is believed one of the victims was seriously injured.

Dietlind Baudoin, the prosecutor of the Republic of Bourgoin-Jallieu, said: “One person was more seriously injured at the neck."

About 30 police carried out a search for the armed man.

A suspect, believed to be 20 was eventually arrested on a bus.

French media have reported that the man arrested has been transported to hospital under psychiatric supervision.

Terrorism has been ruled out by police.
