Famous Schitt’s Creek Rosebud Motel goes on the market for $1.6 million just outside of Toronto
- Landmark location from sitcom Schitt’s Creek has gone on the market for $1.6m
- The Hockley Motel in Mono, a town of about 8,000 people northwest of Toronto, was used as the exterior set for the Rose family’s home on the show
- Current owner bought the property for $800,000 in 2012
- None of the interior scenes on the show were filmed at the the 6.7-acre property
The famed motel where the show Schitt’s Creek was set could be yours for $1.6 million.
Known as the Rosebud Motel, the real building is known at the Hockley Motel and it situated in Mono, Ontario, about 50 miles northwest of downtown Toronto.
Before the the Emmy-winning comedy series starring Eugene Levy, son Dan Levy, Catherine O’Hara and Annie Murphy, made the structure famous, it was operating as housing for Canadian basketball recruits.

The motel then played a starring role in the show when it started in 2014 and is still drawing in fans who are finding the show for the first time on Netflix and who then come and pose outside of the building when they are in the area.
The motel sits on 6.7 acres along the banks of the Nottawasaga River.
On the show, the motel is described as being nine rooms, but in reality six units complete with a bedroom and bathroom make up the 4,300-square-foot property, together with a two-story manager’s suite that has three bedrooms and one bath.
The grounds are also home to a 700-square-foot detached guest cottage and barn with space for three horses.

The current owner Jesse Tipping bought the place in 2012 for $820,000 so will have doubled his money if he manages to sell for the current asking price.
Tipping said he ‘would love to see the property’s next owner turn it into a Schitt’s Creek-themed motel as a tribute to the show.’
The site featured in Schitt’s Creek’s pilot episode, in which lead characters, the wealthy Roses, find themselves in financial ruin after falling victim to a fraudulent business manager.
Displaced from their mansion, the family is forced to move to the only asset the IRS didn’t seize, a small town named Schitt’s Creek.
The fish-out-of-water series about a rich family fallen on hard times in a middle-of-nowhere town that they happen to own began steadily gaining in word of mouth to become something of a sleeper hit.

The motel appeared in every single episode and made for a perfect backdrop for the quirky show.
‘The building itself really matched what was in the mind’s eye of the creative team. It was just a location that worked perfectly for us,’ executive producer Andrew Barnsley told the Orangeville website.
Fans of the show, and potential buyers should be aware, however, that the interior motel scene on Schitt’s Creek do not resemble those found at the Hockley Motel.
All scenes involving the interior of the Rosebud were filmed on a set that was built at various studios around the Toronto area.
