Ed Buck hit with federal charge in man’s 2017 overdose death

Democratic donor Ed Buck was hit Thursday with a federal charge in connection to the 2017 overdose death of a homeless man at his West Hollywood home.

Buck, 65, was charged with distributing methamphetamine, which resulted in the death of 26-year-old Gemmel Moore.

Moore, a homeless prostitute, had suffered a fatal crystal meth overdose in Buck’s home on July 27, 2017. He was naked, wearing only white socks, on the living room floor when police arrived, according to a federal criminal complaint filed in the US District Court for the Central California.

The complaint alleges that Buck provided methamphetamine that directly resulted in Moore’s death.

The wealthy activist was arrested Tuesday on state charges related to the non-fatal overdose of an unidentified 37-year-old man, who fled Buck’s home and later told police Buck had administered “two dangerously large doses of methamphetamine” on Sept. 11.

During his first court appearance in the state case Thursday, he was held on $4 million bond.

The federal prosecutors allege “another man died in Buck’s apartment from a drug overdose earlier this year, and that Buck provided narcotics to a series of other men, one of whom suffered two overdoses several weeks ago.”

Buck initially dodged criminal charges in Moore’s death, as well as in the fatal meth overdose of another man, Timothy Dean, 55, who died in January at Buck’s home.

The deep-pocketed donor is expected to appear in federal court later Thursday.
