'Demon dog' that mauled woman to death 'had attacked other pets but she thought she could tame it', neighbours reveal

A “DEMON dog” that mauled a young woman to death attacked other pets in the area, according to neighbours.

The woman, named locally as Keira Ladlow, was alone in the Birmingham home when she was brutally attacked by the dog.

Stunned locals in Kitts Green, Birmingham, heard her scream and shout for help and claimed the dog “bit her arm off” as she lay in bed.

Keira’s body was found by a distraught relative as neighbours recall hearing the dog – believed to be owned by a family member – barking "incredibly loudly”.

One neighbour said she heard Keira walked her dog at night because it was “a demon dog” which had previously tried to attack other pets in the area.

But they said Keira thought she could "try and tame" the dog.

The 19-year-old woman told The Sun Online: “Keira used to take her dog out for a walk at night, once it was dark, because she didn't want to bump into other dog walkers on the estate.

“We've heard her dog had tried to attack two or three other dogs in the neighbourhood.

'DEMON DOG'

“Someone said it was a rescue dog and was vicious and that Keira was trying to tame it.

“They called it a demon dog. I never saw it but sometimes heard it barking.

“Keira used to keep herself to herself. She was very quiet and no one around here knew her but we’re all very sad about what happened and our hearts go out to our family. It is horrible.”

Police and paramedics rushed to the terraced home at around 2pm on Friday.

Keira, aged in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene by the emergency services.

The rescue dog will now be "humanely" put down.

Keira’s cousin Megan Woodhouse has paid a heartfelt tribute to her, writing: “The thought of this gorgeous girl not being here with us makes me feel so sick.

“I love you darling and thank you for blessing us all with smiles and laughs whenever you were around. I’ll never forget your amazing self. Sleep tight angel, my darling cousin.”

Locals in the area and people on social media have paid tribute to Keira, who was in her 20s, and died on Friday.

Locals said Keira was a keen kick-boxer and used to be a member of the Force One club near her family home in Yardley, Birmingham.

"The screams were extremely loud. They could also hear a dog in the house barking incredibly loud. It was constant.

"The girl was very badly injured. It was horrific. It's heartbreaking. Her family are totally devastated."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "No one else was in the property at the time, and the woman’s family has signed the dog, believed to be a Staffordshire cross, over to police.

"It will be humanely put to sleep.

"The death is being treated as a tragic incident, but with no suspicious circumstances.

"A file will be prepared for the coroner in due course."
