Cops probe murder of eight-week-old baby girl in London

AN eight-week baby girl was found dead with "a number of broken bones" – with a couple arrested over her murder.

The little girl was found unresponsive at a home in South London on April 26 before being declared dead.

A 24-year-old man and 21-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm in May, and later arrested on suspicion of murder.

Cops said the pair were arrested on suspicion of murder after more tests were carried out, following the death in the Surrey Quays/Rotherhithe area.

A Metropolitan Police statement today said: "A post mortem scan of the child showed a number of broken bones.

"On Friday, 3 May 2019 police arrested a 24-year-old man [A] and a 21-year-old woman [B] on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

"A post mortem examination conducted on Friday, 10 May was inconclusive.

"Following further testing police further arrested [A] and [B] on suspicion of murder.

"They have both been released on bail to a date in mid-October.

"Officers from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command investigate led by Detective Chief Inspector John Massey. Enquiries continue."
