British ‘a**hole’ family leave New Zealand hotel ‘filthy and smelling of poo’

A British family whose riotous antics in New Zealand have made headlines around the world have now been accused of leaving a hotel room filthy and smelling of poo.

The group – who have been at the centre of a storm this week after being issued with deportation notices – have been accused of a string of offences.

According to reports, their latest misdemeanour was to leave a room in disarray and ‘smelling of poo’.

Family members have claimed they are being harassed after Facebook vigilantes revealed their identities online and crowds gathered as one of their number appeared in court last week.

A cleaner at one of the latest places they’ve stayed said it took hours to clean the room and claimed spaghetti, Red Bull cans, cigarette butts and towels were left strewn around the room.

The unnamed cleaner told Daily Mail Australia: "It was really messy, and it smelt like kids poo."

She claimed she had to work three hours beyond the end of her shift to get the room back to an acceptable state.

The cleaner said: "I think they were dirty people, we had to wash everything."

According to reports, other hotels in the area have been emailed warning them of the family’s presence.

Barbara, Joe, and Eileen Doran have been named among the 12-strong group accused of causing chaos since arriving in the country on holiday.

In newspaper interviews Joe Doran has previously given his name as John Johnson, and claimed his grandfather is the 10th richest man in England – prompting him to be nicknamed ‘Honest John’.

One the group, 26-year-old Tina Cash, appeared in court on Wednesday last week charged with theft.

Matriarch Barbara, 55, has claimed the family are being "tortured" after their antics attracted interest around the world, and thousands called for them to be deported.

She told Daily Mail Australia that she is "very, very frightened".

Among the accusations against the unruly family are that they have repeatedly eaten at restaurants but refused to pay.

She said: "I’m not going to go and get food without paying for it. I’m not going to put myself that low."

Joe Doran, claiming to be a dad-of-three named John Johnson, told News Hub: "We are a respectable family, we are a British family who have come here, as a Commonwealth country, to see New Zealand, to see the Hobbits and see the mountains.

"The way we have been treated, intimidated, we are scared to leave, we are scared to move, we are hiding at the moment. We don’t know what to do."

As the family arrived in court for Ms Cash’s case, a young boy was seen making an obscene gesture at a journalist, the New Zealand Herald reports.

Locals gathered at the court to heckle the family, who are believed to have arrived in New Zealand last month on six month tourist visas.

Cash was ordered to pay NZ$55 in repartations.

A second woman distracted staff by buying cigarettes while Cash carried out the theft of a Red Bull can, a court report by Stuff states.

On January 3 she returned with her children and stole the sunglasses and rope, the court heard.

Since arriving the family are said to have dumped rubbish on the popular Takapuna Beach, threatened to knock a witness’s brains out and repeatedly refused to pay for meals at a number of restaurants.

They are also accused of being abusive to hotel and restaurant staff and causing the "worst flight" of a tourist’s life.

The Mayor of Auckland even described them as "a**holes" and "trash" in a foul-mouthed rant.

They have now been issued a deportation notice, the New Zealand Herald reports, and a petition calling for them to be booted out of the country has attracted thousands of signatures.

Among the accusations leveled against the tourists are:

  • Leaving rubbish on Takapuna beach before a boy in the group – thought to be eight years old – threatened to ‘knock the brains out’ of a local who challenged them
  • Causing chaos on a flight to New Zealand
  • Threatening journalists and grabbing a reporter’s phone before deleting footage
  • Walking through a drive-through section at a Burger King, prompting police to be called
  • Refusing to pay for meals at Backyard Bar and Restaurant after claiming there were ants in their food
  • Threatening staff and leaving without paying at Artwok eatery in Takapuna
  • Refusing to pay for $250 of food – the equivalent of £132 – after claiming there was hair in it at Mr India in Northcote

In an angry interview, Auckland Mayor Phil Goff told a student radio station: "I’ve asked the council to follow up because I want to see them loaded with an infringement fine for trashing our country. They shouldn’t even be here."
